#37 - Glenn Ivers

If you are a six-foot-six white guy in Liberia, you are going to stick out--and Glenn Ivers did stand out. But, if you add to that infectious enthusiasm, humor, and maybe throw in a new soccer pitch, you might become unforgettable. That describes Glenn, then and now.
Glenn Ivers is a lifelong resident of Syracuse, New York, and a graduate of Colgate University. He served in the Peace Corps in Liberia from 1974-1976, and traveled throughout West Africa. His professional Life included working at the Syracuse Boys Club, Laubach Literacy International, and the American Lung Association. While at Laubach, he produced the documentary films "Hope is a Literate Woman" and "Literacy Changes Lives," hosted respectively by First Ladies Hilary Clinton and Barbara Bush. He also made the film "Song of the Refugee" with the African musician Samite, focusing on refugee camps and resettlement communities in East and West Africa. All three films won Telly Awards and were broadcast on PBS.
In 2022, he authored a narrative nonfiction book, The Angels of Bastogne, about the heroic efforts of an American doctor and two Belgian nurses during the Battle of the Bulge. He has also written a screenplay based on the book. For more information, visit HERE.
