An Economic Officer to the Rescue!

I've kept my 2001 CARE calendar for a quarter of a century because its September featured Afghanistan, pleading for economic help during its drought, and then it got cluster bombs instead! I am fascinated by this account given by Robert Gerber, an economic officer, who wound up on a snowy mountain top after a tragic plane crash in Afghanistan --not the image I had of Afghanistan but the kind of diplomacy I had in mind. I'm impressed by his work with Afghans and people from other countries--relationships he established before this tragic crash.
