Soft Power/Ful Stories is a gem of a podcast. Christopher is a gifted interviewer who lets his guests’ stories shine, while thoughtfully weaving in context and background that make the conversations richer and more accessible. I especially appreciate how he balances voices from across the spectrum—from Peace Corps volunteers to diplomats—always keeping the human story at the center. It’s engaging, educational, and a wonderful reminder of why global connections matter.

As the positive influence and reputation of the United States around the world decline, it is crucial to hear stories from people who have successfully promoted American values globally. American soft power complements hard power by building goodwill toward the United States. Positive attitudes from other nations create opportunities for the U.S. government, the American private sector, educational institutions, nonprofits, and individuals, facilitating the exchange of ideas, knowledge, goods, and services between the U.S. and other countries.

Whether we like it or not we’re all in this together and we have so much to gain from listening and supporting to one another. I love what this podcast brings into this confusing world because it’s actually quite simple. Let’s treat others how we want to be treated.

I listened to the first episode with Carl Henn. It took me from the doctor all the way home and made the trip so enjoyable. I often drive to Chicago (four hours) and I can't wait to get back to these stories. My temptation will be to listen now before going. Then I'll be frustrated without having the stories to keep me going. Great Podcast which I will share with friends and maybe some who are not.

The people who were there - what did they see, hear, and feel? What did they learn? Now more than ever, we need personal stories about the global events that shape our world. Highly recommend.

Thank you, Ambassador White for your beautiful story and your dedication to community service and what was once USAID’s mission around the world. I remember so well the blue bags containing mosquito nets that we handed out in Côte d’Ivoire, during the time that I worked with REDSO. This podcast is a great way to reach out to audiences in the United States and around the world, to reiterate the importance of the work that USAID did and its impact at home and abroad. It would be wonderful to spread these important messages of unity and responsibility towards helping others around the world to children in elementary and middle schools in the US, who will be our leaders of tomorrow. It will teach our children, very young, about the importance of compassion, appreciation, and sharing in ways that touch their lives and the lives of so many others. The Peace Corps should be a prerequisite for any aspiring diplomats, as it will set the foundation for a strong and lasting commitment to people and to peace. Thank you for sharing your story.

Chris was an incredible officer and this podcast captures the energy and essence he brought to the job. Truly remarkable storytelling about how we can creatively advance US foreign policy.

The heart of Wurst’s podcast resides in the power of human connections, what happens when people from different worlds and religions and backgrounds reach beyond their comfort zone to forge real connections. The soft power on display here contrasts brilliantly with the strongman saber rattling and military marches that have filled world capitols, east and west, in recent months.
